Last night I was watching a recording of the new show This Is Us. Don’t worry, no spoiler alert here. What I loved about the show this week was how the simple act of breathing can bring a person back to their center When the little boy, Randall, was so overwhelmed with life, his dad would place his hands on his ears, holding his head firmly, look him straight in the eye and say “just breathe...breathe...breathe”.
Such a simple thing to do, and yet how many of us find ourselves frantically going from thing-to-thing every day, living in chaos with a frazzled mind and honestly forgetting to breathe. One of my coaching practices is to ask my clients at the start of our session to do exactly that. To close their eyes, and take in three deep, long breath’s. The impact is immediate – a quieted mind and more centered being. I encourage you to try this practice as well - DO IT NOW, no one will even know. And do it whenever you need it, not just when things are out of control. Take advantage of this life-giving force that you have within you and see what a difference it can make in your day. It would be such an encouragement to me and others if you'd share your experience with this practice and the difference it made. You can do that in the comment section below. Just Breathe!

I was recently part of a meeting that was VERY frustrating! Sound familiar? It was supposed to be a collaborative mind-share with six people – most of whom were complete strangers. There were so many things wrong with that interaction! I want to spare others from the same fate.
When gathering people together who don’t know each other well, the most important first element is TRUST. Most adults are leery to divulge too much with virtual strangers, and without trust, it’s hard to get anything meaningful accomplished. So how do we build trust in just a short amount of time (after all, we’re not just here to hold hands and sing songs)? It’s really pretty simple, and requires just a little forethought and planning. Here are the basic elements:
Obviously, this is not rocket science, but it’s amazing how many meeting leaders miss the boat. I would love to help you with any of your facilitation needs. Everyone will benefit from additional effort in this up front. |
